Linking To Others by Donna MaherLinking to others is a wonderful way of sharing resources and fine products across the globe. When you reciprocate, you need to be sure you intend to have your products and your business name associated with the person(s) and product(s) that you trade links with. More importantly, does the link offer your visitors some real value? If you want people to associate your name with integrity, compassion, helpfulness, and good, solid information, then the links they click from your sites had better lead them to those type of products, services, and information. Many people mistakenly just link to everyone who sends a link to them, and asks to reciprocate. This can be a real mistake if you want your rank and impressions to rise in the search engines. Google is especially stringent in their requirements, and you would do well to read their webmaster requirements sections to improve your strategies and your ratings. Linking to poor sites, or poor content, or worse.... can actually drag your ratings down, not improve them as you might intend when you link to every Tom, Dick and Harry who sends you a request. The persons and products to whom you link, should be related somehow (and the stronger the better) to your own business & resources if you want to see your ratings rise. It's an ongoing effort to keep up with the search engines, and many of us (myself included) are still learning and growing on a daily or weekly basis. It takes a phenomenal amount of time to do it right, and that's why I'm still growing, like many others, and haven't nearly reached my fullest potential. And, about the time you think you have it all figured out, it changes again. :-) You can find great newsletters to help you, like Jill Whalen's High Rankings Ezine, for one. There are many, just type it in the Google or HotBot or AltaVista or ExactSeek or Yahoo or many other fine search engines and you'll find a plethora of wonderful free help for you. (We've included links to many of them on the lower part of this page for your convenience.)
